Les spectateurs se rendant au célèbre carnaval d'Alost en Belgique ont été choqués par la découverte d'horribles caricatures antisémites de Juifs orthodoxes défilant dans la ville.nLundi, le Comité de Coordination des Organisations Juives de Belgique (CCOJB) et le Forum der Joodse Organisaties (FJO) ont dénoncé la présence de marionnettes représentant des juifs au nez crochu et aux coffres remplis d'argent dans le défilé du carnaval d'Alost. La communauté juive pense que les limites de l'humour ont été dépassées et ont à présent déposé une plainte auprès de Unia et les autorités concernées.

Le carnaval d'Alost a été inscrit sur la liste du patrimoine mondial immatériel de l'UNESCO en 2010. Son origine remonte au Moyen Âge. Le festival est soutenu par l'UNESCO qui devrait contribuer selon ses statut à la cohésion sociale, stimulant un sentiment d’identité et de responsabilité qui aide les individus à se sentir partie d’une ou plusieurs communautés et de la société au sens large. Comment un tel char pourrait défier les organisateurs du défilé et s'il existait des lois anti-discrimination en Belgique.

La page Facebook du groupe d'extrême droite «De Vismooil'n» qui se trouverait derrière ce défilé a été supprimée.

Dans une autre partie du défilé, une procession ressemblant au Ku Klux Klan a été vue en train de célébrer avec des responsables municipaux, en présence du sénateur Guy D'haeseleer, homme politique nationaliste flamand. Le maire d'Alost, Christophe D'Haese (N-VA), a déclaré à Het Laatste Nieuws qu'il ne voulait pas que des restrictions soient imposées au défilé du carnaval. «Cela doit être autorisé lors du carnaval d'Alost», a-t-il déclaré. «Ce n'est pas au maire d'interdire cela. Le groupe de carnaval n'avait pas de mauvaises intentions. "
